Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and courses in probability
statistics
basic reliability and nine (9) years of directly related technical experience in engineering disciplines (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Advanced Degree desired. Completion of System Safety training course desired. Familiar with MIL-STD 1629A (FMECA) and MIL-STD-1543B (Product Reliability). Experience in using probability and statistics in the analysis of test data. Familiarity with human-rated and other rocket propulsion systems and military and NASA specifications desired.

Experience with Reliability Engineering codes (e.g. Minitab
NESSUS
SAPHIRE
Relex) desired. Familiarity with Range Safety Requirements (EWR 127-1
AFSPCMAN 91-710)and System Safety and Hazard Analysis per MIL-STD-882 desired. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).



Job Description:
Systems Safety and Reliability Engineer

Without appreciable direction and exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignments, performs as an emerging authority in the Systems Safety and Reliability organization. Work with integrated product teams for rocket propulsion systems in a development/low rate production environment.

60% - Reliability Engineer with primary responsibility for performing Failure Modes and Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) on new rocket propulsion systems. Perform reliability predictions using a variety of methods: generic failure rate data basis, probabilistic methods, MIL-HDBK-217F.

20% - System Safety Engineer with primary responsibility to perform Hazard Analyses and Fault Tree Analysis on rocket propulsion systems. Perform Launch and Test Safety Analysis, and coordinate with range safety personnel for launch operations. Per MIL-STD-882, develop and document program system safety approach for program life cycle.
Identify hazards, and perform and document hazard analysis per MIL-STD-882, assess mishap risk, identify mitigation measures or eliminate hazards through design selection. Develop procedures and training, review and track hazards, their closures, and residual mishap risk. (SSHA, FTA, SAR).

20% - Prepare Safety and Reliability Reports, both written and verbal. Support design reviews and integrated product team meetings.
